The "Walked in to a Bar" Story...
We met in 1974 and became friends with similar interests: girls, sports, beer, and a good party. Through the years of family and careers, we always made time for "male bonding". We have enjoyed numerous trips including professional and college sports, golf, and just R&R.
There have been three-day weekend baseball trips to see the Cubs, Indians, and Tigers. Another combination included three days of the Phillies, Red Sox, and Yankees. The Baltimore Orioles have also provided years of good games and opportunities for more memories.
One memorable football weekend included attending the West Virginia vs. Maryland college football game on Saturday followed on Sunday by a 1:00pm Ravens game and an 8:00pm Redskins game. True sports fans must agree that 3 football games in 2 days is most impressive! And of course, we had to make the pilgrimage to the "Frozen Tundra" of Lambeau Field. A wind chill of 7 below at kickoff made for a perfect trip.
Week long golf trips have been to Arizona, Mississippi, Florida, and multiple visits to Myrtle Beach.
Bungee jumping and skydiving are just two of the so called "do it now before we talk ourselves out of it" runs that we have lived to talk about. It seems as if none of these trips can end without a stop at a bar to quench our thirst and talk about the experience.
Over the years, some of the greatest topics have been discussed, the greatest lists have been created, and the world's problems have been solved. One of the best lists, over time, has been the collection of "Walked In To A Bar" jokes. These "play on words" jokes have been told hundreds of times and never seem to fail to get a laugh (at least from us!).
After one typical sporting event, Dave stated in his usual joking style, "we should create a print of some of our favorites". Now, Dave's ideas usually brought a "that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard" response. However, on this occasion, I sat at the bar, staring straight ahead for the longest time and then said, "you know, that's not bad." The "Walked In To A Bar" idea was born.
Many discussions, flat sketches, dealings with lawyers and printer companies, along with the good fortune of finding an artist that truly understood the concept has led to our "Walked In To A Bar" print. Although there are many, many more jokes that could be included, these are our personal favorites. Enjoy!
